Southcentre Mall
While the holiday season may be one of the busiest times of year for charitable giving, the importance of giving back remains top of mind all year long for one of Calgary’s leading shopping centres and community hubs. Southcentre Mall is proud to share that as a result of its commitment to contributing to year-round community giving, it was able to host more than 20 charity-centric activations and events throughout 2022, which collectively raised more than $1 million dollars for local charities.
In partnership with organizations like Big Brothers Big Sisters Calgary, Women in Need Society, Ukrainian Canadian Social Services, Autism Calgary, Authentically Indigenous, the Calgary Outlink Centre for Gender and Sexual Diversity, and many others, Southcentre connected the community with causes that matter to Calgarians through a variety of fundraising and awareness campaigns. The shopping centre provided physical space for activations, marketing support, and a number of other pro-bono services to assist in the successful execution of several fundraising initiatives. Volunteers also contributed over 7,000 hours of their time in bringing said initiatives to life.
“Southcentre is so much more than just a typical retail space,” says Alexandra Velosa, Marketing Manager, Southcentre Mall. “By dedicating space that isn’t necessarily retail to other initiatives and events, we are creating a halo effect which attracts an audience beyond shoppers and invites our community to engage with us in a whole new way. Being a community connector is one of our top priorities and we are thrilled to have been able to be part of making this million-dollar impact for more than 20 local charities with the support of Calgarians in 2022. With the start of the new year, we are excited to see how we can continue to carry this positive momentum into 2023.”
Southcentre’s locally driven mindset is all encompassing and can be seen not only in its dedication to supporting local charities, but also in its efforts to support and host local businesses and entrepreneurs, host community events, and create multi-purpose community spaces for Calgarians to come together to learn, play and connect.
